about “The Hermit”:

HISTORY: IN 1997, I was the star of a one-person reality TV show that was being shot to air on MTV called THE HERMIT. Really. I was 27 years old, and I thought I was poised for…. something, I guess. The show had me locked in a studio apartment with hidden cameras all over the place. When the show got boring, the producers hired actors to pretend that they were my friends, old lovers, whatever. I kind of lost it. Couldn’t tell the difference between my real life and my scripted one. The show- THE HERMIT- never aired. I went underground. For the last ten years, I have lived under an assumed name, held regular jobs, even taught high school. I passed as a regular guy. Recently, however, the NCFT folks found me and convinced me to take up the project again, on my own terms. Perhaps the MTV people will release the old tapes. In any event, thanks to NCFT, my assumed identity has been tossed off. I’m a dead man resurrected. Now, in 2007, I am, once again- THE HERMIT.

Hey Davis,I greatly admire your passion for healthcare and the time and effort you put into your videos. However, I strongly disagree with your views of health insurance; especially, with the notion that “[c]orporations profits because you are sick, fatty.” This simply isn’t true. In fact, corporations lose money every time a subscriber makes a claim. That is why it is called health *insurance*. My doctor writes a bill for his/her services, and thankfully, because I have health insurance, I am not responsible for the majority or, even, none of the incurred costs. Even if I was on a 70/30 or 60/40 plan—in which case I should be shopping for better and cheaper options—the health insurance company has to front part of the bill. If I was sick and looking to purchase insurance, it would be a loss to the company as well. They can not afford to insurance sick old me and, thus, a potential customer has gone out the door. In fact, the best thing for a health insurance company to have is a sea of healthy subscribers who pay their premiums every month and don’t cash in on their insurance. Cigna, Aetna, and United would love for everyone to take care of themselves by not smoking and eating better. But everyone gets sick and they provide a safety net to the finance burden of an illness.Addison from California.

Hey, im only fourteen but im not your average ignorant teenager. i’d like to say i agree with just about everything you say. you are an inspiration, and like you said in your video about kids that should protest against war, although i wouldnt really like to be a martyr, when i can be independant i will try hard just as you do to make a difference in this vortex of hate and territory we live in today. if so it’d be nice to keep in touch with you.

hey, you remind me alot of my english teacher.. your talks are pretty interesting, you don’t hear much like it these days, its hard to hear the news when its not being filtered by the news corporations for the typical american, as you know. after i heard “Students: a challenge for you” the revolutionary bells were ringing, and i wanted to go to my school and figure out ways to protest etc like you said, i’ll try. my english teacher wants us to really form your own opinions, at the beginning of the school year i actually raised my hand along with more than three quarters of the class, when he asked whether we believed that we were in iraq to form a democracy, or to get back at them because of 911. but now i feel differently, we’re supposed to start writing organically, its hard, and i’m gonna be up late thinking about all this stuff. thx for the advise, hopefully someone else will listen too. *keep in touch*-mott

You’re such a dumbass! So you are inciting that someone kill Bush, Chenney and others that want to make America safer? You must be a dumbass liberal. You liberals are such a spineless breed of waste. America was not built on spineless people. What makes you think you can survive? America came into being with strong willed, strong-minded people wanting to make a difference. Liberals cannot survive and will not survive. You have nothing to stand on. Your WWIII video on youtube.com made absolutely no sense at all. Can you please read a newspaper or a history book and actually have some ideas or thougths on what you are going to discuss?

Hey pilgrims,Mac (fleetwood makes me think of the b-grade ‘band’ Fleetwood Mac, so I’m now re-naming you); you’re videos are always a great unfiltered media source and your commentary is nuking futs (Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star quote there if your in the shade) and bloody awesome.I wouldn’t despair over the negative commentary (your willingness to continue making videos shows formidable fortitude *mind the alliteration*), in an age where human life can be reduced to statistics, anyone who can make SOMEONE FEEL SOMETHING should be applauded. *clap now if you will, but not for yourself Mac, that’ll just make you look too self-righteous/satisfied… unless you’re into that kind of thing*That aside, it seems that a large percentage of your fellow citizens have chosen their sides in this war (both the internal and the external). It is hard to influence a change in their choice as altering their political stance renders their fundamental core no longer relevant. Then come difficult questions: now what? Who am I? Where am I? How did I get to such a point in my life that a stranger is able to destroy all I’ve believed to be true in the world with a 4 minute video? WHAT NOW? This is the source of people’s anger towards you, an anger which requires empathy. Please do not waste your time hating them, or feel you have to justify yourself.Your message does get through to some people, and your videos encourage those who support your contention to continue their personal pursuit of freedom, who bring the message to many others. Your opinions and your videos matter. However, I understand at times that frustration can quickly become dismay, so I would like to encourage you with a quote from Artaud’s personal diary; Could suffering be thinking? At least you’ll know you’re still thinking when others blindly obey….R.
